Does Your Florida Driver’s License or ID Show the Gold Star?
Beginning on October 1, 2020, Florida residents will be forced to supply additional identification to travel on commercial airlines if their source of identification does not include the gold star in the top right corner.
The REAL ID Act was put into place by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to increase security across all state-issued credentials.
The REAL ID Compliance actually became effective nationwide in May of 2008. Florida began issuing these credentials after January 2, 1010,
In December of 2013, the Department of Homeland Security announced that enforcement of REAL ID credentials will begin in a measured, fair and responsible way. Floridian’s will first see enforcement at nuclear power plants and restricted areas of certain federal facilities. Enforcement at airports across the country will not begin until October 1, 2020.
