    What is a Bail Bond?

A bail bond is a surety bond provided by a licensed bail bondsman which allows someone who has been arrested for a crime to be released from jail for a small percentage of the full bail amount set by a judge. Although, unlike bail paid directly to the court, bail bonds are not refundable.

How Much is a Bail Bond?

A bail bond typically costs ten percent for state crimes and fifteen percent for federal crimes. For instance, if a magistrate judge sets an inmate’s bail at $2000, the amount paid to the bondsman for a state bond would be $200 or $300 for a federal bond. The bail premium paid to a bondsman is non-refundable.

How Do Bonds Work to Get Out of Jail?

Bail bonds allow a pretrial inmate to be released while waiting for his hearing for just a small portion of the full bail amount set by a judge. The bondsman not only arranges the defendant’s release, but also provides a service to the community by supervising the inmate while out on bond and making sure he shows up for all scheduled court dates.

An indemnitor (the person who arranges bail for the inmate) applies for the bail bond, pays for the bond and is also responsible for making sure the defendant abides by all court orders attached to his release and shows up for all court dates.

How Long After Bail Is Posted Are You Released?

In most cases, an inmate is released between two and twelve hours after a bondsman has posted a bail bond in Florida. Once a bail agent posts the bond, it is up to the jail’s administration to complete the process.

    Crime Mystery in Nassau County

Nassau has managed to carry a low crime rate through the years. However, the disappearance of Joleen Cummings, a hairstylist/mother, on Mother’s Day weekend 2018 has had those within the community (as well as the entire state) searching for answers.

Fingers have been pointed at a coworker whose name has been found to be an alias. But known to the victim and citizens in Yulee as Kimberly Kessler. During this long investigation, it has been found that Kimberly Kessler has been using the identities of as many as twenty-five different women in thirty-five cities.

Kessler’s ex-boyfriend was interviewed by law enforcement and he suggested all of these names were found on grave stones of deceased women who had passed around her age range.

Earlier this month, a news report was released claiming the blood of the hairdresser was discovered on Kessler’s boot, sock, a pair of scissors and her storage locker. Kessler was arrested and charged with murder. But pleaded not guilty.

As of this date, Cummings’ body has still not been found. Other evidence has been uncovered and though Kessler’s defense team has opposed to releasing the evidence, the judge has allowed for the new evidence to be released for the hearings.
